This huge book was created for the film. Printed on vellum paper, hand bound in fifteenth century style. The covers are covered with leather which was hand dyed in a multistage process, and then handmade metal clasps and corners were attached. A design was burned into the leather with a hot iron bar. Finally, the book underwentdays of aging - it was dunked in a fishpond and allowed to mold and fox , and then, before drying, the edges of the paper were shredded and stained. The book was opened and 'read' many times to give it the authentic much-used feel that a newly bound book usually takes years to acquire.
